World Tourism Day - September 27, 2023: What You Need to Know

World Tourism Day, which falls on September 27th, is all about celebrating tourism – that massive industry where people travel for fun, relaxation, adventure, and learning. It’s a big deal because it creates jobs and helps different cultures connect with each other. People have various reasons for traveling, like seeing beautiful natural places, exploring history, or experiencing vibrant cities.

Can also be good for protecting important historical sites and nature. But sometimes, too many tourists can harm the environment. Lately, there’s a growing focus on “sustainable tourism,” which means trying to balance making money from tourism with taking care of the environment and communities.

This year, World Tourism Day is on September 27, 2023, which is tomorrow. People from all around the world gather to celebrate the positive side of tourism and the amazing experiences it offers. It’s a time to appreciate our planet, its diverse cultures, and the adventures that travel brings.

The United Nations created World Tourism Day back in 1978, but it only became an official celebration in 1980. On this day, different countries and groups encourage folks to discover history, experience different cultures, and go on adventures.

The theme for World Tourism Day in 2023 is “Tourism and green investment.” This means we should invest money in ways that help the environment and society, in line with the United Nations’ goals for a better world by 2030. The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted tourism, but it also gives us a chance to rethink how we do things and make tourism better and more sustainable.

This year, Saudi Arabia is leading the UNWTO Executive Council, and they’re hosting a meeting in Riyadh on September 27 and 28. More than 500 government officials, business leaders, and other important people from 120 countries will be there to discuss tourism.

Tourism is not just about having fun; it also helps people respect each other, connect cultures, and protect our heritage. It encourages new ideas and creativity, and it’s a big source of jobs. We need to invest in training and educating people for this industry because they are the ones who make it all happen.

World Tourism Day in 2023 is a global event that celebrates the tourism industry’s recovery after COVID-19.
